KWSH 109th Anniversary Celebration

2019 marks Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital’s (KWSH) 109^th anniversary and we commemorated this special event on 23 November. We were pleased to have Minister for Health, Mr Gan Kim Yong, grace our event as guest of honour.

During the event, the Hospital announced that the Community Management Service (CMS) initiative will be progressively rolled out over the next three years. Taking on a holistic approach towards eldercare, CMS will offer seniors in the region a wide range of healthcare services that will not only complement existing ones, but also bridge service gaps. Beyond services and programs provided by KWSH to support ageing-in-place, partnerships with numerous community and healthcare partners will also allow the elderly to enjoy minimal hassle as they transition seamlessly across the appropriate services. It will also encourage volunteerism among active seniors to provide support for their peers.

The YZF-KWSH Physician Residency Program was also launched during the event. Following the memorandum of understanding signed with Nanyang Technological University’s (NTU) School of Biological Sciences in July 2019, the program will offer NTU’s fresh graduate physicians a two-year residency training period. During which, participants will be exposed to the full scope of the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practice where they can train in various settings, including outpatient, inpatient and the community. Through the program, the Hospital will provide a conducive environment for the physicians to develop and hone their skills. KWSH would like to thank Yangzheng Foundation (YZF) for the generous sponsorship of the program and for playing an important role in training the physicians of tomorrow!

During his tour around the KWSH community hub to learn more about our new initiatives, Minister Gan also visited the new Silver Generation Office (SGO) satellite office, our latest partner who had recently relocated to the premises. With SGO @ Kallang on board, the Hospital will be able to tap on and reach out to its extensive connections of seniors, allowing more needy elderly to reap the benefits of KWSH’s services.

The success that the Hospital celebrates today would not have been possible without the commitment of our Board of Directors. During the event, we gave special recognition to our long-serving Board members as they stepped down after many years of contributions and were appointed as Honorary Directors. We also introduced new Board members, whose collective leadership and new vigour will surely bring KWSH to greater heights. Similarly, it is the generous giving by our donors that has kept KWSH going to continuously serve the needy elderly for more than a century. KWSH would like to express our sincere appreciation and gratitude to all our donors throughout the years, and will remain committed to serving the community for the years to come.
